Berlin, 09. December 2020 – Wind Mobility, a leading European micro mobility sharing company, has successfully achieved Climate Neutral Certified status by measuring its 2019 greenhouse gas emissions footprint, purchasing carbon credits to offset that footprint, and implementing plans to reduce emissions this year and beyond. The e-scooter operator has offset the entirety of its 2019 carbon emissions for the production of its custom-built e-scooters and for the operation of its sharing services in more than 30 cities globally. In the first quarter of 2021, Wind will also be offsetting its 2020 carbon emissions and continue to offset its 2021 carbon footprint.

Eric Wang, co-founder & CEO of Wind Mobility:

“Achieving carbon neutrality is an important milestone for Wind. In 2019, we started our partnership with Climate Neutral and are now proud to receive the certification label as a Climate Neutral Certified company. Wind offers a sustainable and now also completely carbon neutral mode of transportation to complement existing public transport services and to support cities in their fight against pollution and congestion. Having our own custom-built scooter means that we not only achieve net-zero carbon emissions for our operations but also for our entire supply chain and production process, which is unique in the e-scooter sharing industry.”

Austin Whitman, CEO of Climate Neutral:

“Climate Neutral Certified companies show the world that immediate action on climate change is possible and essential. We believe this is the beginning of a powerful movement among consumers and companies. Even at this difficult time, our newly certified brands are leading the way by recognizing that climate change must be solved. They believe that all companies should take immediate voluntary action to zero out their entire carbon footprint, and are engaging their consumers around this important issue like never before.”

For the 2019 offset, Wind Mobility is partnering with Cool Effect, a non-profit crowdfunding platform that provides individuals the opportunity to support carbon emission reductions by funding carbon-reducing projects around the world. Through its cooperation with Cool Effect, Wind Mobility is supporting the following initiatives:

  • A Bearadise: This project protects an old growth spruce forest on the North Coast of Afognak Island in Alaska. It will sequester about 1.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalents over its 30-year life.
  • A Bright Idea: a rooftop solar panel program in India that provides clean, renewable electricity to 40,000 rural households – many of whom would not have lights otherwise.
  • Affordable Cookstoves: This project makes and distributes cookstoves that reduce charcoal or wood use for cooking by over 50%. It cuts carbon emissions and deforestation while providing life-changing health benefits and cost savings to local families.
  • Brazilian Amazon Rosewood Conservation Project: Preventing deforestation, giving degraded forests an opportunity to regenerate and improving the livelihoods of local Riverine families.

Catriona Meehan, Head of Sustainability at Wind:

“Achieving a carbon neutrality certification resembles Wind’s mission to offer sustainable e-scooter operations across all markets. Wind’s custom-built e-scooter is more robust than comparable models with a longer lifecycle and a battery capacity twice the industry average. When we brought our Wind 3.0 e-scooter on the market in 2019, we were the very first operator to introduce a battery that can be swapped on the spot, without returning the scooter to the warehouse for charging. Numerous warehouses run entirely on renewable energy and the local Wind teams use electric vans and cargo bikes for scooter servicing and deployment. Local Wind teams also regularly clean the beaches in cities like Barcelona and Tel Aviv from plastic and other waste.”
